On arrival in Cairns this afternoon we will be met by our experienced guide and head straight to the UNESCO listed wetlands in the ancient Daintree Rainforest in our 4WD bus. The Daintree Rainforest is widely accepted as the oldest tropical rainforest in the world. The oldest part, north of the Daintree River, is estimated to be over 150 million years old! The Daintree Rainforest is home to the endangered Southern Cassowary and the oldest flowering plant species known as Idiot fruit. The scenic coastal drive should take us approx 2 hours. On arrival we will be introduced to the ecosystems and environment with a river cruise where we can spot crocodiles, an abundance of fish and a variety of bird life large and small. We leave our boat and explore on foot as we trek on the Daintree boardwalk through the forest. We then 4WD up Bloomfield track away from the tourists to Emmagen Creek where we can have a dip in the lagoon. We complete our days activity with a walk along Cape Tribulation Beach and an exotic tropical fruit ice cream! We check into our accommodation at Daintree before enjoying our first welcome dinner together.

This morning we rise for breakfast before exploring the Daintree Discovery Centre and walk along the Jurassic Forest trail. We can explore the stunning 23mtr canopy tower, the ariel boardwalks and the elevated trail along with interactive discovery centre. We then drive to Mossman to have lunch and then join the unique Mossman River Drift Snorkelling Adventure. There is nothing else quite like this safe and fun river experience anywhere else in Queensland. Your river snorkel guides will get you ready for the adventure- wetsuits, snorkel and all safety equipment is included. Mossman River is home for more than 30 different fish species. Lizards, birds, turtles and even an elusive platypus can all be found here. We learn about the marine environment from our experienced guides as we travel down the river under our own steam. We return to Cairns and check into our accommodation before enjoying dinner.

This morning we will join a commercial super yacht for an educational exploration of the Great Barrier Reef. The Great Barrier Reef is the world's largest coral reef system composed of over 2,900 individual reefs and 900 islands stretching for over 2,300 kilometres over an area of approximately 344,400 square kilometres. We will explore two separate outer great barrier reef locations including snorkelling opportunities with rest stations, marine naturalist presentations and a sub explorer semi submersible excursion. On board our vessel we will enjoy a buffet lunch. Our marine biologist will explain about the importance of the reef and its hidden creatures in marine ecosystems. Later this afternoon return to Cairns and our accommodation.

Today we will be picked up at our accommodation and drive to the Hartley's Crocodile and Wildlife Habitat Centre. Here we will join a boat cruise on the lagoon to spot Crocodiles and with our Hartley's guide, we will tour the facility to learn about the Crocodiles and other wildlife living here. We will have a tree planting session learning about how important they are to this ecosystem, before transferring to Tjapukai Aboriginal Culture Centre. Here we will meet our private Tjapukai guide and join in several activities learning about creation history, indigenous art, bush food and medicine, dance performance and boomerang and spear throwing.

Cairns Turtle Rehabilitation Centre on Fitzroy Island (CTRC) is a volunteer operated, non-profit organisation dedicated to the rehabilitation of sick and injured turtles. The Great Barrier Reef is home to six of the world’s seven species of marine turtles. A number of these are seriously threatened by a diverse range of natural and, more significantly, human induced factors. We will meet some of the volunteers and see hands on the great work being done here. We then return to Cairns for lunch before visiting the Cairns Aquairum. The Cairns Aquarium is a place of learning, fun and discovery! The facility encourages students’ innate curiosity for the amazing creatures of the Great Barrier Reef and the North Queensland Wet Tropics with their hands-on approach to teaching and learning. The in-house guides are reef and rainforest experts, constantly developing ways to engage and connect students with the living environment – to inspire them to value, conserve and make a difference for the future. We return to our accommodation before enjoying dinner.
