This experience in Nepal’s Himalayan foothills will truly broaden your horizons and open your eyes to our magnificent world as you come face to face with authentic mountain culture and revel in unforgettable experience where you'll be struck with the dramatic views of the mountains. Over the next 5 days there'll be plenty of opportunities to engage with the lifestyles of the small Sherpa villages and to interact with local Nepali school students. You will get your hands dirty working side by side with the locals to improve the local school. We then embark on a spectacular 3 day pilgrimage trek to Kalinchowk Temple gaining incredible views of the surrounding snow capped peaks.

This morning we leave Kathmandu for the village where our project work is located. We make our way out of the valley and wind our way into the lush hills that are covered in terraced fields used for the propagation of rice, millet, mustard and other cash crops. It is a scenic drive that will take about five hours to reach Charikot, the headquarters of Dolakha District. From here it is a further 20 minutes to reach the road head and then a 10 minute walk to reach the site. The village and students will be expecting our arrival and we will be welcomed into their village like family, prepare for lots of noise, singing and above all appreciation for the work about to get underway. We will first meet with the local foreman who will take us on a tour of the school showing us what work we will be doing and in conjunction with your World Youth Adventures guide you will be broken up into small work teams. Areas such as this are often overlooked for projects such as this as they are not on the well trodden tourist trails. During your stay here you will gain a truly authentic insight into village life in Nepal. The people here are the epitome of resilience, facing life's challenges with only very limited resources and yet maintaining a warmth and happiness that permeates all aspects of their being. Accommodation: Wilderness Camping

Meals:  B,L,D

Some of the work across the next 3 days will involve sanding and preparing the surfaces for painting, paintings the walls, ceilings and any exposed timber work, sweeping, light load carrying or possibly assisting the renders with their work. You will not need any specific skills or experience, just the willingness to participate and the ability to roll your sleeves up and get a little dirty, all for a great cause. Working alongside the locals, teachers and students will provide a rare insight into the people of Nepal and the incredible Thami people. We will camp in a peaceful spot nearby the village where the local children will be delighted to pay you an afternoon visit. All meals will continue to be prepared and cooked by the World Youth Adventures cooks and regular breaks will be taken so as to keep energy levels high. The project is set up alongside our Travel, Give, Grow concept offering unique experiences to help foster respect for the natural world as well as the diverse peoples and cultures that live in it. This style of travel helps develop confidence, resilience, tolerance, problem solving abilities, team work, fitness and key life skills. Accommodation: Wilderness Camping

Learning outcomes for students

A World Expeditions Schools adventure is a unique learning experience. Our journeys are designed to encourage thriving and positive youth development along with leaving the communities and environments where we travel in a better condition than when we arrived.
The programs are designed to enhance the following life skills that will help you grow as an individual:
• the confidence to lead a group and make decisions
• the value of working together as a cohesive team to achieve a common objective
• the ability to face mental and physical challenges
• the ability to adapt to new environments outside of their 'comfort zone'
• to appreciate and care for the natural environment. The environments we trek through are beautiful and often pristine, invariably the students will gain a deeper appreciation and understanding about how their individual actions impact on the environment
• build strong friendships and bonds with their peers and also the local peoples
• basic outdoor skills obtained on trek such as personal hygiene, pitching a tent, helping to prepare meals
Importantly our adventures help increase general well-being and build resilience in young men and women to help them deal with adverse situations in life.
