Following breakfast, head out to the ancient city of Angkor Thom, surrounded by an 8m high wall. Angkor Thom was the last capital of the Great Khmer Empire under the reign of Jayavarman VII. Continue to Bayon Temple in the exact centre of the city. This 12th-century masterpiece is a study in grandeur, its exterior gallery walls featuring extensive, superb bas-reliefs, particularly the East and South Galleries. From here, continue to visit Ta Prohm Temple, unlike most other Angkor temples, has been left just it was when rediscovered: a photogenic and atmospheric maze of trees growing out of temple ruins amidst jungle surroundings, making it one of Angkor’s most popular temples with visitors. After lunch near Srash Srang (pool of ablutions), take an orientation tour of Angkor Wat, giving us our first extensive look at this amazing site. First, we will reach Angkor Wat – one of the great wonders of the world where you will soon realize it is not one temple, but an expanse covering several square miles, containing the remains of an early civilization as well as many other temples. Angkor was an early Cambodian civilization that ?ourished and prospered from about 800 to 1400AD. The majority of the temples were built between the 6th and 13th Centuries. Many of the temples are in excellent condition, however a large amount, are in poor repair and in need of extensive restoration. The surrounding forest has grown into and destroyed several of these magnificent works of art. Finish your day visiting a sunset time, Angkor Wat is less visited, and the Apsaras will shine in the most beautiful light. Dinner will be provided at a local restaurant. Overnight in Siem Reap.

The 2 days are dedicated to working alongside volunteers from Treak Village to improve their community. This is a real opportunity for us to give something back to a local community and bring long-term benefits. Each lunchtime we will return to Siem Reap for lunch at a local restaurant and to relax at the hotel before returning to the Treak Community for the afternoon’s activities. About Treak Village: There is a very successful and popular plastic up-cycling program at Treak called "A Rubbish Idea", where participants will have the chance to turn plastic waste into bricks. Recently, the community bought a small piece of land behind the school which has been transformed into their brick-making facility. Sri KDU International students will help with the construction of the building that will be used for the up-cycling process to turn plastic into a usable brick. Working with local builders, students will build the brick walls around the base of the building. All work will be at ground level and students will not use any power tools. Make sure to wear clothing you don't mind getting dirty and painted on. At the project site, the students will be divided into sub groups and rotate to work on different components of the project. We will take the time to walk through the surrounding community to gain a better understanding of the people and their way of life. The people from the local village and school will be very receptive to your visit and your contributions bringing long term benefits to the entire village. The friendships formed will foster closer relationships between both countries and schools. The project is set up alongside our Travel, Give, Grow concept offering unique experiences to help foster respect for the natural world as well as the diverse peoples and cultures that live in it. This style of travel helps develop confidence, resilience, tolerance, problem solving abilities, teamwork, fitness and key life skills. This evening, heading out to dinner at a local restaurant. After dinner, we have the opportunity to head to the Night Markets where you can purchase gifts and souvenirs. Overnight in Siem Reap.

Today we return to Treak Community to complete the project work. Once we have said our goodbyes to our new friends at Treak Village Community Center and have lunch. Later this afternoon, we’ll depart for the Cambodian Cooking at Kompheim Village. There will be a demonstration to introduce you to some local ingredients and techniques and you’ll also have the chance to prepare your own dishes. There’s plenty of incentive to pay attention - afterward, you get to dine on the results! Overnight in Siem Reap.

Meals:  B,L,D

After breakfast, we will check out of the hotel and catch our transfer to the Siem Reap International Airport for your departing flight. End of services.

Learning outcomes for students

A World Expeditions Schools adventure is a unique learning experience. Our journeys are designed to encourage thriving and positive youth development along with leaving the communities and environments where we travel in a better condition than when we arrived.
The programs are designed to enhance the following life skills that will help you grow as an individual:
• the confidence to lead a group and make decisions
• the value of working together as a cohesive team to achieve a common objective
• the ability to face mental and physical challenges
• the ability to adapt to new environments outside of their 'comfort zone'
• to appreciate and care for the natural environment. The environments we trek through are beautiful and often pristine, invariably the students will gain a deeper appreciation and understanding about how their individual actions impact on the environment
• build strong friendships and bonds with their peers and also the local peoples
• basic outdoor skills obtained on trek such as personal hygiene, pitching a tent, helping to prepare meals
Importantly our adventures help increase general well-being and build resilience in young citizens to help them deal with adverse situations in life.
