On arrival in Perth you will be met by our experienced guide and depending on your arrival time, we travel to beautiful Kings Park overlooking the city. We have a welcome to country planned to grace us safe travels in the area. Depending on our arrival time this will occur in either Kings Park or Fremantle. Later this afternoon we will catch the ferry over to Rottnest, a spectacular marine reserve and our home for the next two nights. **The accommodation at Rottnest is in the government owned Kingston Barracks. The accommodation is basic and practical with shared toilets and a mess area for eating.

Today we have a really special day in store. We rise early and head out to explore Rottnest Island, a protected nature reserve and home to the furry Quokka, a small lovable marsupial. Weather depending we will start exploring Rottnest Island’s beautiful waters above and below on our glass bottom kayaks. Your guides will provide engaging commentary on the local marine environment as you paddle along, gazing at the world below. We then swap our kayaks for bikes as we cycle around this stunning island. We will also have the opportunity to meet the lovable Quokka in their natural habitat. Weather depending we also hope to spend some time relaxing on the beautiful white sandy beaches Rottnest is famous for. Overnight Kingston Barracks

This morning we board the ferry to the mainland and the 5 hour drive South to the coastal town of Albany at the Southern tip of Western Australia. It is a long days drive you need to prepare for however a spectacular one as you see countryside and small towns very different to the East Coast of Australia. Albany has one of the most spectacular natural harbours in the world and a dramatic convict history. Time depending we aim to visit the National Anzac Centre, one of Australia’s most important cultural pilgrimages. Located within Albany’s heritage listed Princess Royal Fortress, the centre overlooks the actual harbour from which over 41,000 men and women departed Australia for the Great War. We aim to then travel to see how Albany is using alternative energy at the Albany Wind Farm. The farm consists of 12 giant wind turbines, each at a height of 100 metres from the base to the tip of the blades. The turbines generate around 75 per cent of clean, green electricity for the region. We also aim to visit the Albany Whaling Museum. Overnight Albany.

The Bibbulmun Track is one of the world’s great long distance walk trails, stretching 1000km from Kalamunda in the Perth Hills, to Albany on the south coast, winding through the heart of the scenic South West of Western Australia. Today we walk one of the most stunning coastal sections from Peaceful Bay to Rame Head. The terrain on todays walk will take us along spectacular white sandy beaches, granite outcrops once connected to Antarctica and boardwalks through native shrubs and grasslands. The track is named to recognise the early indigenous inhabitants of the southwest, the Bibbulmun. It was known that the Bibbulmun people walked long distances through the forests for ceremonial gatherings, the name was adopted as being unique and appropriate for a trail on which it was hoped walkers would adopt the same feeling of oneness with nature of those people of long ago.

Our walk today leaves the coast and heads north into ancient Karri and Tingle forest. The trail will take us through stunning native wildflower country. Much of the plant life in this forest is unique to the south-west of Western Australia. The giant Tingle trees are the star of the show, the trees only occur in this small area of the world and provide a window to the past. The imposing trees stand up to 180 feet tall with a red brown bark. The Tingles are surrounded by Jarrah and Karri forrest. On completion of the last section of our walk we arrive at the Valley of the Giants Tree-top Walk. The TTW is a suspended walkway high in the karri and red tingle tree forest between Denmark and Walpole. The walkway is positioned 40 metres above the ground in the spectacular heights of the tingle forest canopy. The surrounding Walpole Wilderness features a vast, natural and wild landscape encompassing tranquil forests, imposing granite peaks, peaceful rivers, wetlands and breathtaking beaches. We can study the forest and interpret the unique biodiversity and majesty of the Wilderness from our high vantage point.

Meals:  B,L,D

This morning we join one of the WOW Wilderness eco-interpreters for an informative 2 1/2 hour cruise on the beautiful and unique waterways of the Walpole and Nornalup Inlets Marine Park to the Nuyts Wilderness, WA's first Wilderness Zone. This is a wonderful way to see animals in their natural habitat and learn about the conservation efforts for this stunning area, the cruise is lead by local legend Gary Muir. After lunch in the afternoon we drive to the small town of Margaret River, known the world over for its viticulture and fresh produce.

Meals:  B,L,D

Today we will be involved in a program featuring Margaret Rivers alternative food, organic gardens and viticulture production with a series of hands on activities and farm visits including the organic food trail. This afternoon we head out to the Sunflowers animal Farm where we will learn about the local animals as we muck in and help with feeding.

Meals:  B,L,D

The region from Busselton to Augusta is one of Australia's most cave-rich areas with unique formations giving us a glimpse into prehistoric times. We will join a professional caves guide and explore a number of the caves learning about Megafauna fossils – giant creatures that roamed the forest 50 000 years ago, geological formations and local indigenous legends and folklore. We then travel through farmland into Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park, arriving at the top of the Wilyabrup Sea Cliffs. These 30m high cliffs extend along the coast for about 500m and are popular with rock climbers and offer great elevated views along the coast. We will engage in a walk along the cliffs and down to the beach for some relaxing time, weather dependant.

Meals:  B,L,D

This morning we pack up our gear for the 3 1/2 hour drive to Perth Airport for our flight to Melbourne.

Learning outcomes for students

A World Expeditions Schools adventure is a unique learning experience. Our journeys are designed to encourage thriving and positive youth development along with leaving the communities and environments where we travel in a better condition than when we arrived.
The programs are designed to enhance the following life skills that will help you grow as an individual:
• the confidence to lead a group and make decisions
• the value of working together as a cohesive team to achieve a common objective
• the ability to face mental and physical challenges
