You'll have the chance to climb Mt Jerusalem, from where views stretch across much of Tasmania, and venture out on a number of side walks to spectacular vantage points. This morning we wake and have breakfast before we meet our guide and crew at approximately 7am and transfer to Walls of Jerusalem National Park (travel time approx. 2 hours). Carrying our full backpacks into this magnificent highland area will provide us with a great challenge worthy of the Duke of Ed award. Arriving at the trail-head, you wave farewell to your driver and be briefed in trail safety by your guides. Your trek will take you up onto the central plateau through forests and button grass plains, past Lake Bill and on until you reach our stunning campsite on the northern shores of beautiful Lake Myrtle. This beautiful camp site is a highlight of the day: a natural grassy meadow manicured to perfection by the resident wildlife. Settling in for the evening you can enjoy the majestic view of Mt Rogoona's sheer cliffs rising high above the lake. Walking Distance: 7 km | Walking Time: 6 hours

Meals:  Nil

This morning, after an early breakfast, you will need to break camp and continue on past the shores of Lake Myrtle, through alpine vegetation and around the base of Mt Rogoona. Now that you are on the plateau your walking is gently undulating, and the low alpine scrub gives you wide views in all directions. Continuing along, you zig zag through myrtle rainforest until you reach a hut at Lake Meston - depending on time you may choose to enjoy lunch here, these huts are a common feature in the Tasmanian wilderness and are treated respectfully as historical artefacts. The stories behind the huts are always fascinating. After lunch you will pick up a trail that skirts around the edge of Lake Adelaide - ducking through thick rainforest vegetation and popping out at great spots to view the lake - keep an eye out for the elusive platypus as you work your way around the eastern edge of the Lake - there are a few options for campsites tonight. Walking Distance: 14km up to 10 hours

Meals:  Nil

After packing up camp we head east until we come to Lake Ball and follow it’s northern perimeter through gnarled moss covered myrtle forests. Eventually we will come to Dixons Kingdom where, time and weather permitting we will drop our backs for day bags and attempt a summit of Mt Jerusalem. Leaving Dixons Kingdom we will be trekking through some of the oldest stands of Pencil Pine forest that remain on earth before we arrive at the Damascus Gate, a saddle that marks the entrance into the heart of the National Park, the ‘central walls’. We trek past glacial tarns and alpine herb fields, with the mighty peaks of the central Walls coming into view. Another opportunity for a side trip will present it self with Solomons throne, a quick but scrambling summit that offers spectacular views. Tonight you will camp in relative luxury on tent platforms at Wild Dog creek. Walking distance: 14+km | Walking Time: 8+ hours

Meals:  Nil

This morning we bid farewell to this truly outstanding part of Tasmania's World Heritage Area and begin our walk off the plateau. We meander past the sparkling tarns of Solomons Jewels, descend steeply through tall eucalyptus forests filled with melodious bird call, and stop for a rest at the old Trappers Hut. The final section of gentle downhill track gives us time to reflect on the last four days of outstanding bushwalking. Congratulations on completing one of Tasmania's most magnificent and unforgettable wilderness walks! We drop you at your Launceston accommodation by approximately 5pm. Walking Distance: 7km | Walking Time: 3-4 hours

Learning outcomes for students

A World Expeditions Schools adventure is a unique learning experience. Our journeys are designed to encourage thriving and positive youth development along with leaving the communities and environments where we travel in a better condition than when we arrived.
The programs are designed to enhance the following life skills that will help you grow as an individual:
• the confidence to lead a group and make decisions
• the value of working together as a cohesive team to achieve a common objective
• the ability to face mental and physical challenges
