Trip Summary

This is a unique and active way to experience the gems of Tasmania’s East Coast. This itinerary is modelled off a World Expeditions trip that was selected as one of National Geographic Traveler magazines '50 Tours of a Lifetime'. This complete active adventure on the East Coast of Tasmania traverses all the great spots from Launceston to Hobart. Enjoy some of the best walks on offer in Cradle Mountain National Park, including Dove Lake Circuit, Weindorfers Forest and The Enchanted walk. Learn about the plight of Tasmanian devils at [email protected] Cradle. Embark on a half day of kayaking on Coles Bay in the Freycinet National Park before taking in some stunning walks on Maria Island, home to wombats, wallabies, Tasmanian devils and an interesting convict history! Learn even more about our convict past at historic Port Arthur before a stunning day walk to Cape Hauy to wrap up an action packed week on the Apple Isle.

Sample Itinerary

Early morning QF flight departing Canberra at 8:45am arriving in Melbourne at 9:55am. Depart Melbourne at 11:45am and arrive into Launceston at 13:00. Drive to Deloraine for briefing and onto the Mole Creek Caves for tour. Lunch at Croesus Cave Reserve and onto Discovery Park at Cradle Mountain National Park. Complete the King Billy walk and Pencil Pine waterfalls late afternoon. Dinner and next day briefing. Accommodation: cabins Drive time: 2.5 hrs (flights subject to change)

Split the group into two groups based on varying fitness / interest levels. Group 1 does the Cradle Mountain summit and Group 2 does Marions Lookout and Crater Peak circuit via the Horse Track. Accommodation: cabins

Early morning visit [email protected] Cradle. Afternoon Dove Canyon walk, followed by ice-cream at the Cradle Lodge. Accommodation: cabins

Drive back to Launceston via the Gog Range stopping in at Trowunna Wildlife Park along the way for an hour and half tour. On arrival in Launceston walk around Cataract Gorge and take lunch in the basin. Drive to Campbell Town and onto Gumleaves accomodation. Enjoy some of the activities on site that Gumleaves has to offer such as the flying fox and low ropes courses. Accommodation: cabins Drive time: 3.5 hrs

Students choose between morning activities - kayaking, abseiling or walking. Walk to Wineglass Bay in the afternoon Accommodation: cabins

Drive to Triabunna and catch mid-morning ferry. Explore Darlington and the Painted Cliffs. Accommodation: Bunk style dormitories Drive time: 1.5 hrs

Split into two groups and aim to summit the peaks Bishop and Clerk. Accommodation: Bunk style dormitories

Optional activities on Maria Island - walk or swim. Ferry and drive to Tasman National Park Accommodation: Cabins Drive time: 2 hrs

Excursion to view the unusual geological formations - Tessellated Pavement, Devils Kitchen and Blowhole. Afternoon walk to Cape Huay. Drive to Port Arthur. Accommodation: cabins Drive time: 30 mins

Early morning tour of Port Arthur. Drive to Hobart and visit Mt Wellington. Final farewell dinner. Accommodation: Hotel Drive time: 1.5 hrs

After breakfast the group transfers to the airport for QF flight home. Depart Hobart at 10:15am, arrive in Melbourne at 11:30am. Depart Melbourne 12:35pm and arrive into Canberra at 13:45pm. (flights subject to change)
