Trip Summary

Experience spectacular mountains, pristine wilderness and unique flora and fauna on this stunning walk. During this six day full-pack bushwalking expedition, we visit Tasmania’s only true alpine National Park, the Walls of Jerusalem. The first three days are spent exploring the remoter parts of the national park. Alpine herb fields and highland lake country abound as we visit Lake Adelaide, Lake Meston and Junction Lake to name a few. In the southern confines of the National Park we will have the opportunity to summit Mt Ragoona and Cathedral Mountain. These peaks both provide impressive views out to the southern wilderness of the famous Overland Track and the headwaters of the mighty Mersey River and the Never Never region. Reaching our base camp we spend two days exploring the surrounding peaks and valleys of the central northern Walls region. We may summit King Davids Peak (1499 m),Tasmania’s 10th highest peak, as well as trekking up Mt Jerusalem, The Temple and Solomon's Throne.

Itinerary

After the weeks and months planning and preparing it is finally time for the expedition to get underway. An early flight will take you to Launceston where you are collected by your guides and driven to the Tasmanian Expeditions depot to conduct a thorough briefing and gear check. You will be given the included gear, your share of the food and tent and an opportunity to repack your packs. By mid morning we will depart Launceston and drive by minibus to the Walls of Jerusalem National Park entry point. Carrying our full backpacks into this magnificent highland area will provide us with a challenge but we will be provided with plenty of encouragement from our guides as well as snacks & numerous rest stops. Our trek will take us up onto the central plateau conservation area through forests and buttongrass plains, past Lake Bill and on until we reach our stunning grassy campsite on the northern shores of beautiful Lake Myrtle. Settling in for the evening we enjoy a hearty meal whilst gazing upon the majestic view of Mt Rogoona's sheer cliffs rising high above the lake. Reviews

Also want to give a huge pat on the back to Ben and Brendan who were amazing guides. From when I spoke to Ben pre trip about my vegan dietary requirements (I am very grateful to the effort he went to, to accommodate my fussy requests) to the very end, they were magnificent. Ben especially passionate and knowledgeable, Brendan fortunate to have him as his mentor and who I’m sure will be a very good leading Guide himself. We were so well looked after and given the most wonderful time. I was a camping and trekking virgin and had lots of challenges and am exceedingly grateful for their outstanding expertise. Should also give credit to all of Tax Ex really, the lovely Shelley bussed us to and from, beginning and end and there were no hitches whatsoever. It was perfect.

Pristine and pure, the lakes and landscapes of the Walls of Jerusalem Circuit are a treasure. With perfect blue skies we could see forever from the peaks and summits, seeing Cradle Mountain in the distance and thousands of lakes over the central plateau. Our friendly easy going guides kept us safe, informed and well fed throughout this very enjoyable trek. Thank you Ashton, Holly and Paul for showing us this very special part of Tassie and your fondness for this area added to the experience.

We've just finished our second Hike with Tas Ex and we had a fantastic time. The scenery and Hiking in the Walls of Jerusalem is really spectacular. However, Hollie and George enhanced our trip with their skills, care, thoughtfulness and their sense of humor. We were very well looked after with plenty of food and hot beverages. We had plenty of rest stops and photo opportunities and the pace of each days walk was very comfortable. We had some inclement weather during the hike and Hollie and George took particular care ensuring that we all got the very best out of each day.

My daughter and I really appreciated the magnificent places in the Walls of Jerusalem National Park that we were taken to and would have otherwise not been able to access. We also appreciated the knowledge and flexibility of our guides, Brenton and Matilda, who modified our original itinerary to fit in with the projected weather forecast and thus enabled us to experience the most brilliant views in the most perfect of days. Well done!!

The Walls of Jerusalem Circuit provided a wonderful experience with magnificent scenery and invigorating walking across some tough terrain. Our guides (Brenton and Matilda) were very well organised and adaptable to the conditions, very knoweldgeable about the flora and fauna and navigated seamlessly to some areas we could not have gone on our own. All in all a great trip and highly recommended with the proviso that to really enjoy the experience you need to be fit enough to comfortably carry a full backpack.
